Free RPG Day 6/25 and 6/26

We are returning in-person tabletop Role Playing Games to the store, starting tomorrow.

Prior to 2020, the role playing game community within Anyone Comics was growing hosting a variety of people from different backgrounds and demographics and playing games beyond the recognizable Dungeons & Dragons including ones about horror, teenage angst, or heists.

Role playing games and comics are very similar. Both forms of entertainment are a kind of collective storytelling. In the case of comics, people who write, say Batman comics, bring in their own life experiences to the character and connect it to the audience reading it. Similarly a single game, requires players to tell a story as dictated by individual players’ characters, and the scene painted by the Game Master.

.These games can help a person creatively, as they are surrounded by different personalities and are witness to new thoughts and actions. You may be surprised at how many of your favorite comic book and television writers, play role playing games in their downtime!

Tomorrow, Saturday Jun 25th we will be hosting 3 games, at the same time as Magic the Gathering Commander. Those who participate will get a free gift afterwards, and those that miss out, will still get a free RPG Day gift for the trip.

The first hosted by DM and comic artist Brett will be Dungeons & Dragons. It is a self contained session that should be new player friendly. Perfect for people who have never done it before.

The second, Dread is a horror RPG that sets itself apart from others by using a Jenga tower for action resolution, rather than a set of dice. If you knock over the tower, your character is removed from the game. It is expected, in these horror scenarios, that most of the characters will not survive. Will you meet your end, or rise above it? This game will be run by Leo Kiker (@leo_the_gm)

The third, Kids on Bikes will be run by Matt C. Ever want to star in Stranger Things? Well here is your chance. Come join a session of Kids on Bikes for Free RPG day. Kids on Bikes is a Collaborative World Building RPG set in small towns with big mysteries. Players take on the roles of small town heroes facing big adventure and play with a community controlled POWERED CHARACTER in the game!

Each table can only host 6 players, so we are asking you to show up early, otherwise we will give the seat to someone else. We are also requiring that all players be vaccinated and be willing to keep your mask on if anyone is uncomfortable with players being unmasked. The fun and escapism we have at Anyone Comics, is enhanced when we are able to share it with others. Empathy is what helps this store and these games work!

On Sunday, we will be hosting 3 more games including more D&D, Dungeon Crawl , more new player friendly D&D by Morgan and a game created by our Gabrielle Rabinowitz called the Victor’s Tale.

In "The Victor’s Tale", two players tell the story of mythic beings locked in battle, rolling dice to determine who gains the upper hand. When the dust settles, only one stands victorious, and only one version of the tale remains. This short, two player narrative tabletop game was published in the Level 1 Indie RPG Anthology, distributed by 9th Level Games for free as part of Free RPG Day. The designer of "The Victor's Tale", Gabrielle Rabinowitz, a Crown Heights local, will be at Anyone Comics to facilitate her game and any others from the Level 1 anthology. You can follow Gabrielle on Twitter at https://twitter.com/GabrielleRab and on itch.io at https://gabriellerab.itch.io/.

Blackout in Crater Valley is a unique RPG adventure inspired by VHS era slasher films, 80's nostalgia, DIY music subculture and Cthulhu Mythos horror utilizing the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG system. Blackout in Crater Valley is a '0 level funnel' which means players will create between 2 and 4 low level characters and try to survive the perils that await them as they attempt to rescue their friend Julie.

This game will be for up to five players ages 18+. Free zero and level 1 DCC modules will be available as part of the Free RPG Day from Goodman Games. Helping facilitate Blackout in Crater Valley will be Avraham Yosef Baez, You can follow him on twitter: https://twitter.com/AvrLogg and check out some of his own games at https://avryos.itch.io/.
